Hebrews 12:1-2

12 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Do you have a right-hand man? Do you have someone who helps and supports you the most, especially at work? On another view, why did James and John want to sit on the right- and left-hand side of Jesus when He came into His kingdom? What is the significance of sitting in these places? The person who sat on the right-hand side of the throne was the second in command. This was a very powerful position within the kingdom.

Hebrews 12 tells us that Jesus is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. That would make God king. What would that make Jesus? What does it mean that Jesus is seated at the right hand of the throne of God? The author of Hebrews says because of the cloud of witnesses mentioned in Hebrews 11 we must “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” What does the author mean?

In Psalm 109 David says that the Lord stands at the right hand of the needy. He says that the Lord stands at the right hand of the needy to save him from those who judge him. Are we needy? Do we judge the needy? What does it mean that the Lord is at the right hand of  the needy?

Isaiah says that God was at the right hand of Moses when he parted the waters of the Red Sea. If God had not been at the right hand of Moses, would the waters have parted?

What does Jesus mean when He says that Caiaphas will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of power? What is the power that Jesus is talking about? How can one be seated at the right hand of power? Was Jesus referring to the throne of God?

When Jesus was taken up into heaven, He was seated at the right hand of God. What does this mean? Is this where Jesus is today?

When Stephen was being stoned, he saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. So, does Jesus sit or stand at the right hand of God?

Paul tells the Romans that Jesus is at the right hand of God. He says that Jesus intercedes for us.

In Colossians, Paul says that if we have been raised up with Christ, we should keep seeking the things above, where Jesus is, seated at the right hand of God. What does it mean to be raised up with Christ? What does it mean to keep seeking the things above?

The Hebrew writer says that when Jesus had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. The writer also says that Jesus is our high priest who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. Again, the Hebrew writer says that Jesus, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God. Is the majesty on high God? What does the Hebrew writer mean when he says that Jesus sat down at the right hand of God?

Peter says that Jesus is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.

What does it mean when someone is seated or standing at the right hand of the king? What does it mean when someone is seated or standing at the right hand of power? What does it mean when one is seated or standing at the right hand of God? What is your understanding of the phrase “at the right hand?” How do you understand the Scriptures that address Jesus as being at the right hand of God?
